pegasi have some sort of passive magic, that lets them walk on clouds. Mayby this works also with "clouds" made of butterflies. I also agree with the hollow-bone thing. In s1e4 AJ pulled down her side of the catapult with her front legs only, while Dash was standing on the other side with her full weight on it.

Okay, follow me on this. When she was a filly, she was caught by a swarm of large butterflies. Let's say that kind of butterfly weighs abouzt the same as a common monarch butterfly (.75 grams give or take), which means each produces around 1,5 grams of downward thrust to be able to support their weight and be able to ascend. Minus the weight of the butterfly itself, each now produces again .75 grams of downward thrust. That swarm that caught her was fairly small, I estimate about 2500, so that means they together produce 1,875 kilograms of thrust, which they can spare. I deduce out of this that flutters weighed in at about 1,5 to 2 kilos or about 11 pounds in her youth. Now if Owlowiscious is a male species of a european eagle owl, he weighs in at about 2 kgs, which means he probably produces around 1,5 kilograms of sparable thrust. if he sustains flight with her clinging onto him, that means she has not gained any weight. one expalnation for this might be that like birds, her bones have lots of air inside of them to make them lighter. It is also possible that she is made entirely out of a carbon fibre-kevlar (that would explain the pale yellow coat) compound, and is the direct result of Pegasi scienstists trying to genetically engineer the optimum power-to-weight ratio of a pegasus, to reduce the weight load on each cloud in cloudsdale, therefor guaranteeing the structural integrity of the city.
Based on this theory, i declare her the final evolutional form of equine life forms. kneel.

Ah! But you failed to account for the collective losses due to the combined downward thrust of each butterfly effecting one another. (a butterfly flapping above another creates a high pressure zone forcing the one below downwards, while the one below flapping creates a low pressure zone above it also drawing the butterfly above downwards)

Either that or the butterflies and Owlowiscious are made of dark matter. But I like your explanation better.
